Current Schedule for Classes - March - April, 2010



Fall Protection & Rescue Awareness Training - Eight Hour Course:

  • Review of needs and requirements of working at height - OSHA/ANSI regulations - 1910 and 1926
  • Fall Protection - fall restraint and fall arrest methods
  • Components of fall arrest - full body harness, connectors & lanyards, anchorages and your rescue plan
  • Practical exercises for use of all fall arrest system components & work scenarios in our two-story training facility
  • Specialty equipment - Ladder climbing systems, vertical lifelines, horizontal lifelines, and rope grabs - explanation, review and hands-on work with equipment
  • Equipment inspection and criteria for removal from service
  • Drop test
  • Attendee suspension in harness and teaching self-rescue products/techniques
  • Review and discussion of rescue equipment and training
  • Hands-on work with rescue techniques
  • Final test and discussion

  • Practical exercises for use of all fall arrest system components & work scenarios in our two-story training facility

  • Equipment inspection and criteria for removal from service

  • Review of rescue needs and requirements
  • Final test and discussion


Practical Rigging Safety Training - Eight Hour Course:

  • General safety discussion with overhead slides and handouts
  • Hardware safety and inspection - shackles, turnbuckles, wire rope clips, eyebolts, wire rope
  • Knots - learning common knots used in rigging work
  • Hands-on inspections and discussion of establishing safe working loads for rope, reading & understanding WLLs, angle factors and technical specifications, synthetic rope types, sizes and breaking strengths, synthetic round slings uses and proper inspections
  • Hands-on work: Swaging of safety cables and wire rope slings, proper use of cable and swaging sleeves gauges, tagging and identification of slings, inspection of slings and wire rope
  • Rigging exercise in equipment room - Hands-on experience in rigging loads and moving materials from ground floor to second story area
  • Exercise Evaluation and Open Book Test

Rope Access Equipment Orientation Class - Five Hour Course:

  • Hands-on training on rope with access equipment such as ascenders, descenders, rope grabs, shunts, lanyards and work equipment (majority of work is hands-on in training area) - Note: attendees must be in good physical condition for this class
  • Training on synthetic rope usage, storage and inspection
  • Discussion and shop training on shock loading and angles
  • Knots - learning common knots used in rope access work
  • Training on safe anchorages - use and inspection
  • Gear Inspection

Mobile Cranes and Rigging Safety Class - Eight Hour Course:

  • Crane failure and accident avoidance
  • Use of load charts
  • Rigging charts and load ratings
  • Hand signals and communications
  • Inspections, testing and certification
  • OSHA & ASNI/ASME compliance
  • Load weight calculations
  • Rigging gear inspection - steel, synthetic slings and hardware (under the hook lifting devices)
  • Proper use of inspection tools
  • Selection and proper use of rigging gear (site - specific)
  • Sling angle stress and multiple leg slings
  • Inspection reports
  • Open book test and discussion


Confined Space User Training - Eight Hour Course:

  • Group Review & Participation in Learning Confined Space Definitions
  • Course Subjects: General Requirements, Equipment Requirements, The Entry Permit, Duties of Authorized Entrants, Attendants and Entry Supervisor
  • Rescue & Emergency Services
  • Contractors
  • Safe Entry Procedures
  • Hands-On Work with Four-Gas Analyzer & Docking Station (Sperian), Respirator Fitting (1/2 Mask), Irritant Smoke Fit Testing, Tripod and Rescue Gear
